Welcome to the first addition to our Meet the Team initiative, where in each episode, you'll get to learn about one of our superheroes. From how they came up with their hero and what they like to do in their spare time to where they can see the business in a couple of years.
Mikey is our resident marketing director, with a passion for creating fun and interesting campaigns he ensures that not only his companies grow but so do yours.
Well, I didn't really come up with the name Ryujin, as it's referenced in Japanese mythology. Ryujin is the dragon deity, the god of dragons, and is often depicted as able to control elements, including water. and as my surname (ryu) means dragon or style in Japanese, I thought it made sense. I also chose it because water is seen as an adaptive element, and it ties well with my personal goals at the moment.
Sure! I'm currently a 4th Kup (blue belt) in ITF Taekwondo, I'm a marketing director here at Dorset tech, I have co-founded Dojo Dex with my dad, and I'm constantly striving to learn new things.
I spend my spare time in many different ways. Most nights, we do Taekwondo. I also watch anime and read manga. I'm currently studying Japanese to hopefully pass my JLPT N5 test in December, and I'm working on creating my own manga titled "colours".
One of my biggest goals right now is self-acceptance and self-improvement. I'm constantly trying to improve myself and accept everything about me, both the good and the not-so-good. There are also a lot of old habits that I'm trying to break right now, so it's a long journey of self-discovery/improvement.
I've been surrounded by technology for as long as I can remember, and as I didn't know what I wanted to do when I was younger, I chose to follow in my dad's footsteps and go into this industry and so I chose marketing as I'm really into psychology so I thought I could leverage that knowledge and use it to make an impact.
My favourite part of working for Dorset Tech is definitely creating different campaigns and trying to create fun and unique ways to express the theme and offers of the campaigns.
Now that you've got to know about Mikey and how parts of his life influenced his superhero name, that rounds up this week's meet the Team episode!
So stay tuned, stay super, and I'll see you next time!
